Feldman Ecopark Centre of Cheiroptera Rehabilitation rescued more than 50 bats, which were disturbed during their hibernation with the repairing works in Barvinkove region (Kharkiv oblast). The animals will live under the care of specialists until spring, when they are released to the nature.
“The rescued bats are Kuhl’s pipistrelles. They were brought to us from the village of Druha Ivanivka in Barvinkove region. During the repairing works in the local school, sleeping bats were found in slits under the windows. The caring workers of the school gathered 57 bats into the box and brought them to us. We are grateful to everyone who helped to rescue and transport these animals,” Olena Prylutska, Cand. Sc. (Biology), the Centre’s deputy head tells.
The most part of pipistrelles are in good condition, they were placed for hibernation in the special fridge. Only 17 of them need additional feeding, Olena Prylutska says.
It should be reminded that in December, 637 bats from Karlivka (Poltava oblast) were brought to Feldman Ecopark Centre of Cheiroptera Rehabilitation. They were also found in the school during the repairing works.
Ukraine’s first Centre of Cheiroptera Rehabilitation Feldman Ecopark started its activities in 2013. During this period, the Centre rescued more than 5,000 representatives of bats. In addition to rescuing operation, the Centre carries out active scientific and educational activities.
