De Brazza monkeys family living in the Regional Landscape Park have addition, the first baby of the new year was born. Now the Feldman Ecopark’s zoological collection comprises more than a dozen of representatives of this species of African monkeys.
“The baby is healthy, the veterinary examination and all necessary procedures have been already carried out. Now the baby together with its mother stays in the special warm enclosure in a postnatal quarantine. The kid eats maternal milk, grows up, and in the spring the visitors of our Ecopark will be able to get acquainted with it closer” — Feldman Ecopark’s deputy director of zootechnics Valeriia Ivashchenko told.
It should be noted that de Brazza’s monkey is one of the brightest-colored monkeys in the world. The body is gray with a henna-red back, black extremities and a white top. The animal has prominent white beard and an orange spot on the line of eyebrows. Males have blue skin of cheeks around the nose. The species is named in honor of the Italian-French traveler and naturalist, the count Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza who is also known in history as the founder of Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo.
It should be reminded that the ape collection of Feldman Ecopark is the largest in Ukraine. It comprises about 200 individuals of nearly 30 species.
