Feldman Ecopark will actively develop support programmes for animals with special needs – O. Feldman

“There are many discussions now about the fact that our country is poorly adapted for life with disability. However, after facing the suffering of a creature that cannot protect own rights, it becomes clear that it is necessary not only to talk, but to do something with it, and do it urgently,” Ukrainian MP Oleksandr Feldman wrote on his Facebook page commenting on the story of Aina the shepherd that was found on the roadside with paralyzed hind legs.

“We are grateful to kind people, who helped the dog to get into the caring hands of the workers of Feldman Ecopark Good Home. Aina undergoes treatment currently and has a special wheelchair to be able to move. And the dog hopes to find a real home – own home instead of a public one. It looks out for “own” person every day. And, to tell the truth, it is too hard to watch this. Unfortunately, there is still no queue of those who would like to “adopt” a dog with special needs.” Oleksandr Feldman wrote. “I understand people. It is difficult to take care of a dog with disability – even not so much because of the straitened domestic condition as it may seem, but because of the external ones. There are almost no places to walk the dog like this. The streets, parks, sidewalks in our country are the real obstacle course, not a place for a walk.”

The parliamentarian noted that the problem is old and well-known for everyone who has to use a wheelchair or crutches, or even considers every curb as struggle due to the age. There are no conditions for people with disabilities to be able to walk, shop, study, entertain, and just to live a normal life.

“And the society’s attitude to disability is quite negative. Because it is easy to be merciful to the sufferings of others in places, where everything is made comfortable for everyone, and where it is easy to help. In Ukraine, this help is a feat and a struggle. In our country, there is no shortage of good people. I know it for sure. However, we have a serious lack of conditions, under which the human kindness will be able to reveal freely and become a natural part of our life. That is why I ardently support all initiatives concerning the inclusion “without exception and restrictions.” For people and animals. Aina demonstrated us the new field of work in Feldman Ecopark, and this year, along with our traditional work with special children and adults, we will actively develop the programmes supporting animals with special needs,” Oleksandr Feldman emphasized.
