The representatives of the Feldman Ecopark Centre of Cheiroptera Rehabilitation participated in the international zoological conferences which took place in Poland and Romania where they reviewed the experience of foreign colleagues and presented own works and achievements of the Centre.
On November 18-19, the specialists of Feldman Ecopark Centre of Cheiroptera Rehabilitation Olena Rodenko and Anastasiia Domanska participated in the All-Polish Conference on Chiropterans (XXVI Ogólnopolska Konferencja Chiropterologiczna). The conference participants presented researches relating to the subject matter, showed developments and summed up the results of works on protection, studying and monitoring of chiropterous animals in Poland.
“In turn, the specialists of the Feldman Ecopark Centre of Cheiroptera Rehabilitation acquainted their colleagues with the results of the Centre from 2012 to 2017 and presented a poster about practice of bat treatment following the results of 2017. This work is unique for Eastern Europe and attracted great interest of the Polish colleagues” — the deputy head of the Centre Olena Prylutska told.
The member of the Centre of Cheiroptera Rehabilitation Olena Golovchenko successfully performed on the International Zoological Congress in Romania, The Ninth International Zoological Congress of “Grigore Antipa” Museum (CZGA 2017) which was held on November 22-25, 2017 under the patronage of the Princess of Romania Margaret. At plenary lectures the participants of the Congress had an opportunity to hear the reports of the invited speakers from around the world. Besides, 75 posters covering various aspects of animal species and its biology have been presented on the Congress. Among three winners in a poster session, Olena’s poster about sexual dimorphism at bats “Whose females are larger? Sex dimorphism in skull parameters of two air-hawking Vespertilionidae bats” has taken the third place.
It should be reminded that the Feldman Ecopark Centre of Cheiroptera Rehabilitation, created in 2013, became the first in Ukraine. Apart from scientific researches and educational activities, the Centre assists bats during the winter period, creating comfortable conditions during cold weather to these animals after which they will be released in the nature in spring. The solemn release traditionally takes place in the Feldman Ecopark. In 2017 it took place on the Khortytsia Island in Zaporizhia. The specialists and volunteers of the Centre have already rescued more than 5,000 bats.
