The workers of the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home” visited the town of Pervomaiskyi (Kharkiv oblast) last weekend, where they helped to take some asocial animals to sterilization.
“Our specialists are very experienced in working with animals, which do not want to get in touch with people. So we helped our colleagues in Pervomaiskyi to reveal them and to take them to the sterilization centre. We have also talked to the locals and told people about the advantages of sterilization of animals and humane methods of stray animal numbers control,” the head of the Centre Iryna Podvoiska told.
According to her words, Good Home cooperates with animal right defenders and the authorities of Pervomaiskyi concerning the introduction of the mechanism of control of the number of stray animals with the help of humane methods, in particular the CSVR programme (capture, sterilization, vaccination, return to natural habitat) since 2015. And the work has already given tangible results. According to the data of the local authorities, while in 2016, 30 persons addressed to doctors after being bitten by domestic dogs, and the same number suffered from stray ones, this year, the numbers of incidents with domestic animals didn’t change, but the numbers of street attacks fell down to 4 incidents. Moreover, people complain less about the aggressiveness of stray dogs, as they do not pack together and do not present threat.
Iryna Podvoiska told that Pervomaiskyi is a leader in Kharkiv oblast by the introduction of humane methods of control of the number of stray animals. The sterilization centre has been opened here and provides its services successfully. It has own operating room and comfortable enclosures for animals. In other towns, the work has got stuck on advisory activities and round-table meetings.
