Green monkey was born in Feldman Eсopark

There is an addition in the big ape company, the natives of the Western Africa living in the Feldman Ecopark —on September 8, the cub of a green monkey was born.

“The newborn is healthy and feels great, but nevertheless the experts examine his state. The baby stays in group of other green monkeys which were one of the first apes to appear in the Feldman Ecopark” —the Feldman Ecopark’s deputy director of zootechnics Valeriia Ivashchenko tells.

The Feldman Ecopark’s visitors will be able to see the kid in the enclosure together with his relatives right now.

In the nature green monkeys inhabit savannas and forest edges of the western part of the African continent. Also they were brought to the Cape Verde Islands and the Antilles. Green monkeys received the name due to characteristic color of the upper body (as a rule, of an olive tincture). These animals have a long tail — 30-50 cm, the body length is 55-70 cm. Weight is from 2,5 to 7,5 kg. They possess big cheek pouches, like hamsters. Besides, these monkeys are capable to make a set of sounds. Green monkeys are omnivorous and lead day semiarborescent life, choosing trees near open reservoirs for a night’s lodging.

The Feldman Ecopark’s zoological collection totals over 200 apes, 20 of them are green monkeys.
