Nutrias, a stork and stock of tortoises — the Feldman Ecopark continues to rescue and protect animals.
Recently, two nutrias were brought to the Feldman Ecopark. People reared the animals for the gastronomic purposes but changed the attitude towards them.
“The Ecopark’s visitors brought nutrias to the Info Centre. The owners told that they got used to the pets and didn’t have the heart to take their lives. But they have no opportunity to keep the animals further so decided to give them to us, knowing that small animals will be in safety, well-fed and groomed — the Feldman Ecopark’s deputy director of zootechnics Valeriia Ivashchenko told. — Former owners promised to come and visit pets for which we’ve already prepared new lodging with an obligatory basin”. Besides, Valeriia Ivashchenko emphasized that the Kharkiv citizens and city residents often apply to the Regional Landscape Park to shelter the pets – rabbits, sheep, goats, pigs. It should be reminded that not so long ago Venia “kid”– a 150 kg boar about whom we’ve already wrote lodged in the Feldman Ecopark .
But beyond the new settlers, there are also others with more difficult destiny. Recently, the wounded stork arrived to the Service for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue “Feldman Ecopark Good Home”. The residents of the Kharkiv oblast found it near one of stanks and brought to the animal rights activists. The stork’s wing was broken; a bird was exhausted and required emergency assistance.
“The stork arrived to us with an old tender infraction – the tissue necrosis began therefore the wing had to be amputated. Our veterinarians conducted successful surgery – the specialists of veterinary service have sufficient experience and qualification – and now the feathery is out of danger. — Valeriia Ivashchenko assured. – The bird is young, quickly rejuvenates and has already begun to adapt”.
The stork with special needs will live together with the numerous relatives in the Regional Landscape Park. Two tens marsh tortoises (also brought here by not indifferent Kharkiv citizens) were taking the rehabilitation course here and are about to go to the wild nature now. In the coming Sunday they will be released on the Three Lakes coast. Everyone will be able to join this unusual tortoise outlet which will take place on July 30 (the beginning — at 11:00).
