According to the words of the Feldman Crazy Bikes project coordinator Oleksii Korchak the peculiarities of the relief in the Regional Landscape Park perfectly meet the requirements of cycle track for cross-country. The route consists of three 500m, 1,000m and 3,240m long circuits with counter slopes, 12 shors with the length of more than 150m, three wooden sections, small pump sections and 20-centimeter drops. Later it is planned to create stone sections and to construct another 6-kilometer circuit.
“The construction was launched on November 29, 2016, and during 4 months we managed to prepare a wonderful cross-country route, which may be used for local competitions. However, we are planning to bring it to the level making it possible to hold national competitions by the middle of summer. And, perhaps, the next year, we will be able to hold one of the stages of the Cross-country amateur league of Ukraine,” Oleksii Korchak told.
While Feldman Ecopark rendered maximum assistance in the cycle track construction, it appeared a difficult task, Oleksii Korchak tells, because the main share of works were performed in winter, which was quite snowy, and the most part of the sections were constructed in spring. However, according to his words, the results couldn’t be reached without the assistance of the representatives of the community “VeloKharkiv,” who took part in the route construction on weekends.
A lot of cycling fans gathered at the opening ceremony, and they duly appreciated the new 3-kilometer route. “Today, our group opens the cycling season, and we arrived to try the new track. There are not many similar routes in Ukraine, and it is probably the single one in Kharkiv. It will be interesting for the experienced riders to cover this route, but even the beginners will be able to cope with it,” VeloKharkiv group administrator Mykhailo Pelekh noted.
“Everyone will be able to have a ride along our new route at any time, as it is constructed so that all (not necessarily experienced athletes) to enjoy the ride as much as possible. That is why we invite everyone who likes open-air activities, to visit Feldman Ecopark and try own hand on the Crazy Bike route,” the director of Feldman Ecopark Andrii Roshchupkin tells.
Cross-country, one of the kinds of mountain biking is an Olympic sport. At the same time, it is the most popular kind of extreme cycling. The first stage of the Crazy Bike track (500m circle) was opened in January. The new ecology project “Feldman Crazy Bikes” is implemented within the framework of the 1,000 Teams Tournament programme of the International Charitable Foundation “Oleksandr Feldman Foundation.”
