Ukrainian MP, co-chairman of the political party “Nash Krai” (“Our Land”) Oleksandr Feldman expressed hope that the non-conflict nature of the new names of streets will bring the tranquility to the moods of the city residents. “I am very glad that there are no names of ‘doubtful heroes’ among the new names of the streets, because the residents of Kharkiv have plenty of people from the past and the present to be proud of,” the politician noted.
Mr. Feldman also expressed satisfaction with the fact that the opinion of the “Nash Krai” faction was taken into account. “In this situation, the city has a chance to return to stability and mutual understanding,” the politician noted.
The member of the parliament supported the decision to postpone the renaming of the city districts. “It is very good that the authorities met the wishes of citizens, and now they have three months to express their opinion concerning new names for the city districts,” Mr. Feldman said.
It should be noted that earlier, Oleksandr Feldman offered to place a Fountain of friendship instead of the monument to Lenin on Svobody square. The MP emphasized that the symbol of the main square must unite people.
It should be reminded that today, Kharkiv City Council adopted the resolution to rename streets in pursuance of the law on decommunization. 83 deputies supported this resolution, 1 abstained. 173 streets, 1 underground station, and 4 parks and public gardens were renamed.
