There should be a Fountain of Friendship in Kharkiv — А.Feldman

A People’s Deputy of Ukraine and co-chairman of Nash Krai political party Oleksandr Feldman called to cease political speculations on the topic of the monument to Lenin that had been taken down in the center of Kharkiv.

‘It is necessary to sit down at the negotiating table and stop speculations on such important topics for Kharkiv people as the monument to Lenin,’ claimed Oleksandr Feldman.

To the Deputy’s mind, a logical solution would be to build the Fountain of Friendship in the Freedom Square. ‘The first capital of Ukraine [Kharkiv] has long been considered the city of fountains, so why don’t we celebrate it by creating one more object of pride in the central square – the Fountain of Friendship,’ says говорит Oleksandr Feldman. The politician stresses that the symbol in the city’s main square should unite rather than separate people.

‘Kharkiv must return its title of a European capital, and the Freedom Square should again become the object of pride and the favorite place of our citizens and guests of the city, a place where peace and order reign,’ says Oleksandr Feldman.

As regards renaming of districts and streets in the city the politician remarked that in his opinion the names should not spark any conflicts and reflect the values of Kharkiv people. ‘If a name arouses rejection in the people and makes them come to a meeting to show that, we need to look for a consensus,’ commented Oleksandr Feldman. ‘Names of streets and districts should bring to our city peace, tolerance and mutual understanding instead of antagonism.’
