Eulemur albifrons (white-headed lemurs) settled in Feldman Ecopark. The couple of these, quite rare lemurs arrived in the Regional Landscape Park within the framework of the programme of free exchange among zoos.
“Eulemur albifrons was recognized as a separate species not so long ago. Some researchers continue indicating these animals as a subspecies of the common brown lemur,” Feldman Ecopark’s deputy director of zootechnics Valeriia Ivashchenko tells. “The exotic newcomers, the native land of which, as well as the other lemurs, is Madagascar, feel well. They were settled in the closed winter premises for now. The visitors of Feldman Ecopark will be able to meet white-headed lemurs in spring. They eat cooked cereals, vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, and curds.”
The natural habitat of the white-headed lemurs is north-eastern Madagascar. They live in rain and broad-leaved forests at a height of 1,670 m above-sea level. The body length is about 90 cm, 50 cm of which is a tail. The body weight is about 2.3 kg. Females differ with a reddish coat, males are recognized for the clear white or cream-coloured spots on the head. The lifespan in the nature is 20-25 years. They eat vegetable food, like leaves, fruits, sprouts, and also they eat insects. They almost never climb down trees.
It should be noted that ring-tailed lemurs, black-and-white ruffed lemurs, red ruffed lemur and pygmy slow loris live in Feldman Ecopark as well. The Regional Landscape Park has the biggest collection of primates in Ukraine. Their number exceeds 200 animals of 30 species. It is a home for over 2,000 animals.
