In Feldman Ecopark gallinule birds appeared

The collection of birds Feldman Ecopark is expanded with gallinule birds. 10 birds of this breed known for brightly blue plumage arrived to the Regional Landscape Park within the program of exchange between zoos. There were no gallinule birds in the Ecopark before.

The gallinule birds are completely healthy. The visitors can see these big and bright birds in the separate open enclosures in the territory of the Ecopark. “These are interesting birds which are characterized by long legs and phalanges intended for climbing on bushes and canes, – the deputy director Feldman Ecopark Valery Ivashchenko tells. – We will provide them everything required for comfortable life. We hope that in the future gallinule will be able to hatch nestlings”.

Let’s note that the bird collection Feldman Ecopark numbers more than 1 500 birds.

Gallinule or the gallinule chicken is semi-aquatic bird of the rails family with bright blue plumage. It is widespread from Eastern Europe and Africa to Australia and New Zealand, mainly in tropical and subtropical climate. Inhabits swamp coasts, medium-sized lakes and sea gulfs with dense thickets of reed, sedge or typha where this bird spends most of its lifetime covertly. It eats mainly various parts of water plants, also snails, crustaceans, insects, fish roe and frogs. The adult bird’s length is 45-50 cm, wing spread – 90-100 cm Gallinule is a noisy bird it has a loud voice and the extensive repertoire.
