The Ukrainian MP Oleksandr Feldman congratulated the Jewish community of Kharkiv and all Ukraine on Sukkoth (The Feast of Tabernacles).
“Sukkoth is a unification feast. The palm, myrtle and willow leaves and the etrog fruit gathered for the ritual symbolize the unity of all Jewish people. Also Sukkoth is a reminder on times when Jews lived in tents during the 40-year desert wanderings. In memory of those events the tent (sukka) is constructed, – Oleksandr Feldman noted. – This is a joyful feast which symbolizes the unification of person and nature, the time of autumn rest after a harvesting season. It is spent with a set of songs and dances with family and friends”.
