Ukrainian MP Oleksandr Feldman called on the law-enforcement authorities to investigate the killing of famous journalist Pavel Sheremet without delay.
“The killing of Pavel Sheremet must be investigated quickly, professionally and honestly. The guilty people must be punished. Otherwise, there will be nothing but fear and pain here. I express deep condolences to Pavel’s relatives, close people and colleagues,” he wrote this on his Facebook page.
“Pavel Sheremet was killed in Kyiv. A brilliant journalist with difficult fate. He lived and worked in Kyiv during the recent years. Perhaps, he considered that there are more freedom, more opportunities to work honestly and professionally here than in his native Belarus or in Russia, where he also worked when it was possible. The death of a journalist strikes not only at the profession. It strikes at all of us – it is not safe in Ukraine! It is not safe for everyone, regardless of activity, income, age, nationality.”
“I’m ashamed and sorry that our country slides by leaps and bounds into Colombian “way of life,” when any issues are solved with the help of arms, when people live in constant fear for their lives, for the lives of their children. By the way, according to the media freedom index, we are not far from Colombia. And according to the Reporters Without Borders rating, we were one position lower than Colombia. That’s saying a lot. War reached our streets, and we must admit it openly and give a rebuff to the violent chaos spreading. Fear kills our future, and this cannot be tolerated!” the politician emphasized.
It should be reminded that Pavel Sheremet died as the result of car bomb attack in Kyiv at 7:45 a.m., on July 20. The car belonged to Olena Prytula, the head of Ukrayinska Pravda newspaper. The car exploded when the journalist left his home.
