Phenylketonuria is a rare hereditary disease, one of the few which are treatable. It is connected with violation of a metabolism of amino acids, mainly phenylalanine. In case of non-compliance of a reduced-protein diet is followed by accumulation of phenylalanine and its toxic products that lead to a severe defeat of the central nervous system.
