The number of babies born this spring in the Feldman Ecopark increases. This time, the family of Bennett’s tree-kangaroos gave birth to the charming kid – a healthy baby full of strength and energy.
“A couple – Ashley and John – gave birth to a baby in the beginning of March. Only recently the kid started to show itself from the mother’s pouch. It is still a little shy, and never leaves the parents. Almost all the time it is in the mother’s pouch, and eats only the mother’s milk. But thanks to the wonderful weather, the family walks around the spacious enclosure all the time. That is why, everyone is able to see them and share or joy!” the Feldman Ecopark deputy director of zootechnic issues Valeriia Ivashchenko told.
It is too soon to speak about the future of a baby – whether it will stay in the Ecopark or will find home in the other zoos, the specialists say. It must get stronger, and learn how to eat and take good care of itself.
Reference: Bennett’s tree-kangaroo is a striking representative of kangaroo family. In the nature, this species lives only in Australia, on Cape York Peninsula. Bennett’s tree-kangaroos populate the closed and humid rainforest, including the one with climbers, and the gallery forest at a height from 0 to 1,400 m above-sea level. They prefer nocturnalism.
It should be reminded that over 2,000 animals, including 6 Bennett’s tree-kangaroos, lives on the territory of the Regional Landscape Park.
