Group lessons for children started in Centre for psychosocial rehabilitation’s new consulting room

The new group for children aged 8-11 started to work in the room for psychosocial rehabilitation of children and teenagers opened under the Centre of Psychosocial Rehabilitation of the Feldman Ecopark. The head of the psychological service Tetiana Aliieva told that this group was aimed at common children with certain psychological problems.

“The absence of obvious problems is not a reason to avoid care about mental health of a child. School becomes a serious challenge and the first social exam for him or her. The bahaviour in the family used by a child must find ‘validation’ in the social interaction. Every child undergoes this stage with different success. If this exam is failed, the consequences may appear in the form of school (poor progress, conflicts with teachers and peers, social isolation) and general social maladjustment (conflicts with family members, refusal to fulfill family rules, stealing, escapes from home, appearing of harmful habits, aggressive behaviour),” Tetiana Aliieva tells.

According to her words, it is very important to help a child in time to develop adaptive model of behaviour, thanks to which he or she will be able to feel confidence. For this purpose, the psycho-correctional program is built unconventionally: the first stage of work is directed at determination of the reasons for maladjustment behaviour; the second stage is the initial study of a problem and the groundwork for new skills (group lessons and children/parent training.) The work includes such methods of psychotherapy as art therapy, fairy tale therapy, group role games, sand tray therapy, and relaxation methods. The third stage is the development of the obtained skills in the Feldman Ecopark using the elements of animal-assisted therapy (equine-assisted therapy).

The groups are formed by Fridays. The hour-long lessons are carried out in the Centre’s room (70, Sumska str.). Everyone, who is not indifferent to their children, is able to sign up.

It should be reminded that the Centre of psychosocial rehabilitation started its work in 2013. The professional psychologists and psychotherapists provide complex psychological and social assistance to children and teenagers with mental disorders, deviant behavious, and to the families, who encountered difficult circumstances. It also works with the IDPs from the ATO zone, the defenders of Ukraine and their relatives.
