The young naturalists from the Theatre of children and animals of the Feldman Ecopark, Kateryna Kanevska and Kateryna Vasylieva presented their scientific work during the XII Annual Ecological Ethics Conference “Do no harm”, which took place in the Kharkiv zoo. The representatives of the Centre of clinical therapy, Kharkiv regional regional center for children and youth creativity, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and others took part in the event.
The young naturalists of the Feldman Ecopark prepared the presentation to tell about the research of different methods of breeding of Saturniid moth. This work was carried out in cooperation with the students of the H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University. Young biologists made the range of experiments in order to find out the most optimal conditions for the laboratory breeding of this species of insects.
“Saturniid moth from the Red List is currently the most vulnerable species, that is why the maintenance of these biologic species is the priority task for us. The Feldman Ecopark even launched the special project ‘Give life to a moth’, for people from Kharkiv to join our mission of moths’ rescue and to be able to care and breed them at home!” the head of the Theatre of children and animals of the Feldman Ecopark Olena Harazhina told.
It should be reminded that the last summer, the Give life to a moth action took place in the Ecopark. After the recommendations of the professionals were listened, everyone was able to take a Saturniid moth caterpillar to take care of them, to breed a moth and then to let them out. Thus, the guests of the Feldman Ecopark made their contribution into the conservation of rare insects.
It should be noted that the Young naturalists’ club in the Feldman Ecopark is one of the largest clubs in Ukraine. More than 400 young naturalists study here. The club simultaneously deals with several directions: two general educational groups, the Theatre of children and animals, the Centre for bats rehabilitation, Horse club, Pony-club, and the School of a young handler.
