The European otters presented to the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo by the Feldman Ecopark adapted in their new home successfully. Lately, the animals, which are rare for Israel, were released from the quarantine and placed in the new enclosure with pool.
This was informed by the workers of Israeli zoo.
“The cooperation with the Feldman Ecopark provided more chances for effective reproduction of otters, because their appearing in the wilderness and the increase of the population is the task of the state importance,” said the head veterinarian and zoological director of the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo Dr. Nili Avni-Magen.
According to her words, only 30 otters live in the north of Israel in the wilderness of Galilee region. Many ecological problems, exhaustion of reservoirs, climatic changes make it impossible for this and many other species to survive without biodiversity conservation experts’ help, Dr. Nili Avni-Magen explained.
The director of the Feldman Ecopark Andrii Roshchupkin told that Israeli counterparts addressed the Feldman Ecopark asking to help them to save the population of otters. “We reached agreement on transfer of our animals. They successfully reached the Land of Israel and adapt to the new environment,” Mr. Roshchupkin added.
Israeli specialists expect the further cooperation with the Feldman Ecopark concerning the solution of this problem, and in turn, they are ready to render assistance to their Ukrainian counterparts.
It should be reminded that in the end of 2015, the Feldman Ecopark gave a couple of European otters to the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo. The event took place within the program of free exchange of animals between zoos.
