The great white pelican whose appearance in different districts of Kharkiv caused a media and social network frenzy found home in Feldman Ecopark.<\/p>\n
“The fate of a pelican who appeared in the city in winter time out of nowhere and could freeze to death, stirred many Kharkiv citizens. The hotline of the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue \u201cFeldman Ecopark Good Home\u201d recieved a number of calls. The group of animal rescuers Feldman Ecopark several times went out on a call to the place where a pelican was spotted, two times were chances to catch him. In Noviie Doma district, the bird was beckoned with fish in order to catch it with a net, in Saltovka used a net gun \u2013 but it yielded no result. We are very grateful to the police officers, who didn’t remain indifferent to the fate of the bird under threat and caught it ” \u2014 the head of the Birds department in Feldman Ecopark Volodymyr Perekhodovych emphasized.<\/p>\n
After the pelican was brought in Feldman Ecopark, our specialists examined a bird. They estimate, the pelican is about two years old and is not afraid of people, that is, most likely, appeared in the city not from the wild nature (pelicans are found in the south of Ukraine), but from a private animal collection. Veterinarians haven\u2019t found serious damages or problems with the rescued bird’s health, only a small hematoma on a shoulder. It was treated, the pelican was warmed and fed with fish. The bird will spend some time on a quarantine and soon after it will join relatives on the Swan Lake Feldman Ecopark.<\/p>\n
It should be reminded that the Swan Lake is a unique nature complex for water birds, which exists in the territory of Feldman Ecopark for two years. Among the great number of birds \u2013 swans, ducks, storks and even pelicans \u2013 living here under the care of animal keepers, the part was rescued and underwent rehabilitation by efforts of the specialists of the Centre for Wild, Exotic and Domestic Animals Rescue \u201cFeldman Ecopark Good Home.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
