The Feldman Ecopark’s zoological collection has been replenished with rare exotic species of birds. This time two males and two females of the Black curassow, the natives of the forests of Amazonia, and a female with two males of red-tailed black cockatoo (Banks’ black cockatoo), the inhabitants of the eucalyptus forests of Australia became our new settlers. The birds were brought from a private zoo.<\/p>\n
The animals are placed under quarantine, but already soon, after passing of needed veterinary treatments, they will take their places in the expository enclosure for exotic birds near other representatives of sibling exotic species.<\/p>\n
It should be noted that both the black curassow and the red-tailed black cockatoo is a big rarity for the Ukrainian zoos. In the wild nature the number of these species is gradually decreasing, but doesn’t mean that they are among endangered species. The black curassow (a large bird, the size of a turkey with violet plumage and red legs) inhabits rainforests of the Amazon Basin. The red-tailed black cockatoo is the Australian; it is called in honor of the English naturalist sir Joseph Banks who accompanied James Cook in his round-the-world travel and the first who made the description of this species. The adjective “mourning” in the name of a bird emphasizes mainly black color of feathers.<\/p>\n
It should be reminded that now the Feldman Ecopark’s zoological collection comprises about 1,000 birds of different species, including about 20 cockatoos of 6 species and 6 representatives of 2 curassow species.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
