December 14, at 11 A.M., the mourning meeting devoted to the tragedy that happened during the occupation of Kharkiv in 1941-1942 will take place in Drobytsky Yar. The organizer of the event, Ukrainian MP, the President of the Ukrainian Jewish Committee, the President of Kharkiv regional joint Jewish community Oleksandr Feldman, urged all those who are not indifferent to join the requiem meeting.<\/p>\n
\u201cDrobytsky Yar figures in the history of the World War II as an example of the \u2018new policy\u2019 of fascist Germany on the occupied territories. The memorial was constructed on the place that became a common grave for over 16,000 men, women, children and old persons, first of all Jews; but there were also Ukrainians, Russians, Roma, and the representatives of other nationalities,\u201d Mr. Feldman noted.<\/p>\n
According to the words of the politician, it is very important for exactly the younger generation not to forget the tragic pages of the history. \u201cYoung people are the ones to build this country, our future is in their hands, and they must make everything possible for the terrible lessons of the past not to happen again,\u201d Mr. Feldman said.<\/p>\n
The MP also expressed the words of gratitude to the Jewish community, and urged everyone who cares to take part in the mourning procession and to honour the memory of the innocently killed. \u201cI am very grateful to the Jewish community for it to pay much attention to this topic, getting the younger generation involved as much as possible. It is very important for young people to remember and come to honour the memory of the Holocaust victims. To know the history is the single way to avoid the repetition of the tragedy in the future,\u201d Mr. Feldman noted.<\/p>\n
It should be reminded that during the occupation of Kharkiv, over 16,000 Jews died in Drobytsky Yar. Today, the names of only 4,000 of them were restored. In general, during the World War II, Nazis killed 6 million Jews.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
