The new residents appeared in the Regional Landscape Park \u2013 a couple of Bennett\u2019s tree-kangaroos and a male red kangaroo moved here from a private zoo. According to the Feldman Ecopark\u2019s deputy director of zootechnics Valeriia Ivashchenko, the animals have already undergone all of the necessary procedures, they feel themselves fine and get used to the new place.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey will stay in winter enclosures till spring. But when it becomes warmer, they will move to the open enclosures, where everyone will be able to look at them. There are three Bennett\u2019s tree-kangaroos in Ecopark right now \u2013 two females and a male. We are expecting that they will be on good terms with each other,\u201d Valeriia Ivashchenko told. \u201cAs for our female red kangaroo, we have looked for a \u2018bridegroom\u2019 for it for a long time. Now we have two representatives of this largest species of marsupials on the planet. And we hope they will have progeny soon. The future couple is currently getting used to each other.\u201d<\/p>\n
It should be noted that the native land of both Bennett\u2019s tree-kangaroos and red kangaroos is Australia. The first ones are named in honour of a naturalist Dr. George Bennett. They prefer to live in rainforests. The natural habitat of the second ones (having the largest body size among kangaroos) is dry savannahs. Both species are quite numerous in their native lands, but due to the economical activity of people, they are also under the threat of gradual extinction.<\/p>\n
It should be reminded that the animal collection of Feldman Ecopark includes three species of kangaroos: red kangaroos, eastern grey kangaroos and Bennett\u2019s tree-kangaroos. There is a total of eight animals in the zoo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
